Summary:

Devaluation became inevitable. Kazakhstan yielded to the inevitable and abandoned its long‐held fixed currency regime in favor of a near full free‐float. It had no choice given the buildup of external pressures from the low oil price, the continued delay in bringing the Kashagan oil field into production and the loss of competitiveness to the Russian ruble.
